plasma skin tightening
about plasma skin tightening
Plasma skin tightening with our Neauvia Plasma IQ device is a non-surgical cosmetic procedure that aims to rejuvenate and tighten the skin. It utilizes a technology called plasma energy to achieve its effects. The results are permanent although the skin does continue to age normally afterwards.
It can be used to decrease skin laxity on any part of the body, however around the eyes is the most common area as an alternative to blepharoplasty. There are minimal side effects but recovery can take up to 10 days.
For many people, loose sagging skin is an undesirable cosmetic concern that negatively impacts their appearance as they age. Decreased skin elasticity is caused by the breakdown of collagen and and elastin – two important proteins in the skin responsible for giving it its plumpness and elasticity. Ageing, sun exposure (photo damage), genetics, and diet all play a role in contributing to skin laxity. Plasma skin tightening treatment that can be used to counter these changes without resorting to surgery or injectables.
Plasma works on the principle of creating plasma from common gases in the air. At the right distance from the skin, oxygen and nitrogen in the skin combine with the electrical charge from our FDA approved device to create a tiny lightening bolt of plasma. This plasma arc generates heat and dries out (or desiccates) the surface layers of skin (which increases the resistance to electricity preventing overtreatment). The heat breaks down some of the collagen in the dermis (the deeper layer of the skin) and stimulates the fibroblasts that lie there. The fibroblasts – responding to the breakdown of collagen and their own stimulation – produce new collagen and elastin.
Fibroblasts are cells within the dermis layer of the skin. Their job is to create connective tissue, extra cellular matrix and help the skin recover from injury. The micro-trauma caused by the plasma stimulates these fibroblasts to create more collagen and more elastin and new skin cells which will strengthen, plump and tighten the skin. This process continues for a few weeks after treatment improving fine lines, wrinkle and sagging skin.
As this is safer, low energy plasma, it can require up to 4 treatments to achieve the desired end result, your practitioner will advise on this at your initial consultation.

How Plasma works:
Plasma Generation: The Neauvia Plasma IQ device generates plasma energy, which is a highly ionized gas, by applying an electrical current to a small handheld applicator.
Targeted Treatment: The plasma energy is directed onto the surface of the skin in the areas requiring treatment. The applicator does not make direct contact with the skin but creates a controlled “plasma arc” that interacts with the skin’s outermost layer.
Sublimation and Contraction: When the plasma energy contacts the skin, it causes a process known as sublimation. Sublimation is the conversion of a solid substance directly into a gas without passing through a liquid phase. This process creates tiny targeted injuries in the skin’s outermost layer, also known as the epidermis.
Heat Transfer: The plasma energy transfers heat to the deeper layers of the skin, including the dermis. This heat stimulates the production of new collagen, which is a protein responsible for skin elasticity and firmness. Collagen remodeling occurs over time, leading to a gradual tightening and lifting effect.
Fibroblast Stimulation: The heat generated by the plasma energy also stimulates fibroblast cells in the dermis. Fibroblasts are responsible for producing collagen, elastin, and other components of the extracellular matrix, which provides structural support to the skin. Activation of fibroblasts leads to increased production of these essential substances, further enhancing skin firmness and tightness.
Healing and Results: After the plasma treatment, the treated areas form small crusts or scabs, similar to superficial burns. These crusts will naturally shed off within a week or two, revealing new, rejuvenated skin underneath. Over the following weeks and months, collagen production continues, resulting in progressive improvements in skin tightness, texture, and overall appearance.
